‘La Vocata’ is the Cantamessa family’s finest expression of Barbera from selected vines in the organic family vineyards. Once harvested, grapes are left to macerate for around ten days without cooling, the emphasis on extracting fruit with good tannic structure from the skins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6-8 months, followed by maturation in bottle.
Ruby-garnet in colour, this is medium to full-bodied with fine tears on the glass, and showing intense aromas of blackberry and morello cherry with wisps of wood smoke and earthy spices. The palate is full and rounded, tangy cranberry and cherry flavours with sweeter notes of raspberry and plum, with earthy savoury hints, tobacco and leather, interwoven in the smooth, drying tannins.
Goes best with grilled meats or hearty casseroles, risotto or tomato-based pasta dishes.
