Light in body but intense in colour, with an attractive garnet hue, this is an excellent, weighty example of regional Burgundy Pinot.
Fermented and aged in initially in stainless steel, the wine is transferred to oak for up to six months. The result is a fresh, vibrant, fruit-driven wine, bursting with morello cherry and red berries, with more savoury nuances of smoke, leather and earthy notes appearing as the wine ages.
Founded on 30 June 1931, by 98 pioneer wine growers from Buxy and some surrounding areas, the Cave des Vignerons de Buxy was created thanks to the determination of the Côte Chalonnaise winegrowers to pool their talents in a common project and make their wine, tend to their vines and sell and market their produce together. The story behind this company is one of an human and social endeavour stretching back over 80 years.
In the initial years their financial resources were very limited and it was only the energy and tenacity of these first wine growers that kept the Cooperative going. In 2004 the winery built a 33,000-hl capacity vathouse for both red and white wines on the Buxy site, boasting temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats along with a pneumatic pressing station.
In 2011 the winery proudly turned 80 years old and counted over 272 family-run domaines among its members, working the vines as their fathers used to do. Together, these men and women stand for the values of quality, conviviality and respect for the environment. Every year Alain Pierre, the oenologist for the Cave des Vignerons de Buxy, reappraises past approaches and cedes the upper hand to Nature, allowing the full character of the wine to shine through.
