Massive, brooding bouquet of dried rose and camphor, and a forceful, full bodied palate that boasts svelte tannins, balanced acidity and big flavours of earth, smoked meat and black cherry. Complex and long – a very fine Piemontese red. Like its famous brother Barolo, Barbareso is made from 100% Nebbiolo, but Barbaresco is less tannic and more approachable in youth. The wine must by law be aged for two years before release.
Better with food – try with osso bucco, mature cheeses, wild boar or rustic pizza.
Established in 1967 by Egidio and Angela, producer Cantina Bosio is situated in the heart of the Langhe (Piedmont), in pretty hills mentioned in the works of famous Italian poet Cesare Pavese.
The vineyards today are mainly in San Stefano Belbo but also in Castiglione Tinella, Mango, Costigliole d'Asti and Castagnole Lanze with grapes often coming from different part of Piemonte like Langa, Monferrato and Roero. Bosio is today run by Valter Bosio, his wife Rosella and oenologist graduate son Luca.
