Super introduction to this alluring grape that finds its best expression in France’s pretty Alsace region.
In the absence of a village classification in Alsace, the Boeckels use the term Midelberg to denote wines grown on the slopes of Mittelbergheim, in the family’s vineyards around their home village. Organically grown Gewürztraminer is manually harvested and allowed to settle on the lees, with a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation prior to gentle filtering, and maturation in century-old oak casks.
An alluring nose of apricot and honey with a porcine, oily palate that is round, generous and emphatically fruity. Lychee, mango and cream are evident too, in this distinctive white. Succulent and rich, without ever being cloying, great character and balance.
Enjoy on its own, with stinky, soft cheeses, Indian or Thai cuisine, or exotic fruit desserts.
