Classic dark purple colour with flamboyant aromas of violets, blackberry, plum and fruitcake. The rich, opulent palate shows masses of berry and spice flavours, held together with velvety tannins and underscored by toasty oak. Intensely concentrated, 100% Malbec from Langhorne Creek, matured for 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak hogshead and puncheon barrels.
As it is bottled without filtration it may throw a light sediment so decant if you can.
Try with beef, duck confit or blue cheese.
Frank Potts, an immigrant from England, founded Bleasdale in 1850, and six generations later his descendants form the second-oldest wine family in Australia (after Yalumba). The name comes from a local Reverend, Ignatius Bleasdale, who advocated a “sober, wine-drinking community that excludes ardent spirits.” An anti-temperance priest suited Frank’s ironic sense of humour, so he immortalised him in his winery.
James Halliday Wine Companion 2018
Matured for 12 months in French oak (22% new). A thoroughly inviting bouquet of mixed spices, purple and black fruits and cedary oak; the palate is likewise labrador-friendly, awash with plum and black cherry fruit, but retains its shape and focus. An ever-reliable wine that fully justifies its price. Trophy for Best Shiraz Langhorne Creek Wine Show, gold medal Adelaide Wine Show '16. 96 Points.
