Grapes for this Pinot Gris (Grigio) come from a mix of old and young vineyards in Appenheimer Daubhaus and Gau-Algesheim’s St. Laurenzikapelle, where sandy loess and shell limestone characterise the soils. The grapes are harvested by hand according to ripeness, gently crushed in the winery and left to stand in their own juice, then fermented with wild yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels, and bottled in the spring after 4 months on the lees.
On the nose this has classy and typical Pinot Gris aromas of yellow apples, red peach and sweet apricot. The palate is rich and full-bodied, loads of ripe yellow fruit with flecks of floral and soft spice, a lush texture that melts in the mouth with a finely balanced acidity and a dry finish.
