Belcolle ‘Simposio’ Barolo 2018

36.00

Out of stock (back in stock November)

Description

From vineyards located 300m above sea level, this 100% Nebbiolo is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks after a short period in contact with dry ice to increase complexity and aroma. Skin maceration takes place over 15 days, assuring good color and body. The wine then spends 36 months in oak, 50% in 5,000 litre Slovenian oak barrels and 50% in 500 litre French tonneaux, followed by six months in bottle prior to release.

Garnet red with orange tinges, this is rich and opulent with powerful aromas of dried fruits, leather and cigar box, backed by more elegant floral and herbal aromas. The firm tannins and quenching acidity are softened out by silky dark fruits, prune, date and blackberry. Wonderfully unyielding length with a beguiling complexity that unwinds itself after a couple of hours decanting.

Enjoy with robust meat dishes and mature hard cheeses.

Founded in 1976 by brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione and Giuseppe Priola, the Belcolle winery is based in Verduno, one of the villages of Barolo. Nebbiolo is the star here — the noble grape of Barolo and Barbaresco — with prized sites including the Monvigliero and Borgo Castagni vineyards forming part of 18 hectares of vineyards that surround the winery. Barbera and Dolcetto are also grown here, producing elegant and characterful reds, with Favorita and Chardonnay making up the minority white plantings.
