Baglio di Pianetto Insolia 2022



An alluring crisp dry Sicilian white — like a Mediterranean breeze.

Insolia has long been grown in Sicily and parts of Tuscany, although it is less familiar in comparison to other Italian grapes like Pinot Grigio.

The grapes are picked and gently pressed and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks, then matured for three months with an additional two months minimum in bottle. Pale yellow and straw-like in colour, the subtle aromas of this wine are like spring flowers and orange blossom. Clean and crisp on the palate with a delicate minerality.

Pairs excellently with shellfish and seafood.

Baglio di Pianetto is the result of one man's love for two things: wine and Sicily. Count Paolo Marzotto was a renowned fashion entrepreneur and, in his younger years, racing driver and footballer. In 1997 he fulfilled a lifelong passion and established the Baglio di Pianetto winery, nestled in 160 hectares of rolling hills in Santa Cristina Gela, in the north-west of Sicily close to Palermo.

The certified organic vineyards, located at altitude with a high temperature swing between day and night, are surrounded by mountain forests in the heart of DOC Monreale. The estate is a kaleidoscope of micro-climatic conditions: exposure, altitude, atmospheric temperature range and strong ventilation all come together to create wines of freshness, complexity, elegance and longevity. International varieties grow alongside Sicily’s heirloom natives — Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon sit alongside Frappato, Grillo and Inzolia. These are wines authentic and testament to their place and their founder.
