Rich and strapping Ardèche Syrah from the right bank of the Rhône.
Reminiscent of its more illustrious northern Rhône neighbours, this is full-bodied and dark in colour, with black and dried fruits backed up by savoury, meaty influences on the nose. Rich and concentrated on the palate, blackberry, black cherry and prune dominate, with an impressive tannic frame providing structure and length, hints of clove, leather, game and wild herbs appearing as the wine evolves in the glass.
Serve this hearty beast up with game or beef casserole, or characuterie and hard cheeses.
Apart from its diversity of terroirs, Ardèche is rich in preserved medieval villages, often perched on hilltops and fortified. The renowned cubist artist Sgarra brings these villages de caractère to life on the Ardèchois labels, each label characterising a different village. The Syrah features an illustration of Alba La Romaine just outside Montélimar, its castle perched on a rocky volcanic peak.
