Rich, full bodied Cabernet from the southern Ardèche on the right bank of the Rhône valley.
Deep red in colour, there’s Cabernet giveaways immediately, thick wafts of blackberry, plum, tomato and herb leaf with a hint of mint and chocolate. Full and juicy from the off, sweet blackcurrant and berry fruit is supported by good tannic structure and savoury hints of leather, tobacco, coffee bean and cacao.
Serve up with paté, rillettes or terrine, hard cheeses or even dark chocolate. So good.
Apart from its diversity of terroirs, Ardèche is rich in preserved medieval villages, often perched on hilltops and fortified. The renowned cubist artist Sgarra brings these villages de caractère to life on the Ardèchois labels, each label characterising a different village. The Cabernet features an illustration of the village of Banne, in Ardèche,
the Celtic origin of which means ‘peak’ or ‘crag’, perfectly describing its hillside position in the Cévennes mountains.
