The single vineyard Altos de Corral is a flat, table-top hill just outside Navarrete in Rioja Alta. The 600m elevation gives spectacular 360 degree views over the vast valleys of Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja to the west and east respectively, and the rocky ridges of Rioja Alavesa to the north.
The 10 hill-top hectares are planted out with Tempranillo, the vineyard floor characterised by an iron rich red soil and large limestone rocks. This Crianza gets 12 months in new French oak barrels, followed by a minimum 12 months’ maturation in bottle.
Dark purple in hue, there’s high fruit ripeness on the nose, plum, black cherry and sloe aromas with distinct new oak influences of cedar, beeswax, vanilla and aniseed. The palate is dense and structured with attractive dark fruit and liquorice notes, a fine freshness to the mid-palate, silky smooth with a long supple finish, peppered with savoury spice notes.
