Part of the “forgotten grape” series from Alma Cersius, Vermentino is better known by the colloquial Rolle in this part of south-west France.
Taken from 40 year old vines planted on a terroir of rolled stones and limestone-clay, this is harvested in the middle of the night to preserve freshness, fermented in stainless steel and left on fine lees for 2 months to add texture. The result is a silky, concentrated wine combining freshness, elegance and depth, it’s a really fine example of the varietal.
Pale yellow with lime reflections, the nose is packed with stone-fruit, citrus peel and floral notes. Crisp and fresh on the open with a burst of citrus, the palate softens to show fleshy white fruit, supple and velvety with a touch of minerality, and a clean, refreshing finish with fine length.
