Pazo de Villarei, with its Celtic knot motif, pays tribute to the Celts who first inhabited this north-west corner of Spain over two thousand years ago and would be credited with the first wine-growing in the region. 80 hectares of vineyards extend along the Salnés Valley, in the heart of Rias Baixas, primarily young vines less than 20 years old, and divided in various plots located between the estuaries of Arosa and Pontevedra on the River Umia. The banks of the Umia provide a shallow and sandy soil with the micro-climates within the vineyards perfect for growing; quite mild all year-round but particularly in the summer, a long ripening period allows full development of aromas and flavours, with rich textures that define the Villarei wines.
