Garrocha family vineyards and winery were established in 1945 by Francisco Caetano Macieira, the man behind the famous moustache that adorns one of the winery’s signature wines today. Current owner and winemaker is also Francisco Maciera, the founder’s great grandson and the fourth generation to produce wines from the three family estates just outside Lisbon. All grapes come from the family’s vineyards with Portuguese varietals such as Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Maria Gomes planted alongside international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo (Tinta Roriz) and Sauvignon Blanc.
Today, 10th June, is Durif Day. We are not making this up. A group of Australian winemakers says and and who are we to argue?
Durif originates from southern France and was created in 1880 by Dr Durif from a cross between the varieties Syrah and Peloursin: https://t.co/Jngx6Q5A59https://t.co/o4ZRqZhwV1,16 hours ago
