Château Phélan Ségur

Château Phélan Ségur is a Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois estate founded in the 18th century by Tipperary man, Bernard O’ Phelan. Ownership passed back into French hands in 1985 and today this Saint – Estephe estate is run by the three Gardinier brothers, Thierry, Stephane and Laurent but the Château remains an indelible part of the history of the Wine Geese, documenting the Irish contribution to wine making around the world. Due to the terroir containing less gravel and more clay than other left bank communes, the relative damp coolness of the terroir of Saint – Estephe makes the region more suited to the cultivation of Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon.
