Bodegas Peñafiel (Alma Serena)

Alma Serena wines are made on the golden mile in the small town of Peñafiel in the Ribera del Duero. This a boutique producer, with a focus on quality, not quantity. Aside from the Verdejo which comes from neighbouring Rueda, all the vineyards, dotted around Peñafiel, are planted with Tinta Fina, Ribera del Duero’s Tempranillo synonym.

The quality focus sees harvesting at night, manual grape selection on tables, cold maceration of the wines prior to fermentation to extract the best colour, fruit components and a fresh balancing acidity throughout the wines, and plenty of quality oak barrels. Even basic roble sees six months in French oak, with the Reserva getting over three years.
