INTRODUCING: Boland Cellars (Paarl, South Africa)

BOLAND CELLARS, South African region Paarl’s leading estate, was recently included in the World Association of Wine & Spirits’ “Top 100 wine producers” list. Boland argues that a great wine is one where you think you had a glass but yet the bottle seems to be gone. Love the logic ;)


Paarl is an important wine district 60km inland from Cape Town and immediately northeast of stately Stellenbosch. The climate is roasting, with the vines needing summer watering to keep them ticking along, but all that sun and heat delivers velvety-smooth, deliciously sweet-fruited wines. The region’s name comes from the Dutch word for ‘pearl’, on account of how local mountains Boland and Paarl Rock shimmer after rain showers. Lovely…



Try Boland’s wines…

Flutterby Sauvignon Blanc (€9.99 in South Africa promo) – Bouncy, flirty white that bursts with fine passionfruit and crushed basil aromas. Pair with scallop and peach ceviche or vegetable pakoras and coconut dal.

Flutterby Merlot (€9.99 in South Africa promo) – Round, with soft tannins and lush flavours of plums and spice. Lovely fruit expression! Good with shepherd’s pie or duck in plum sauce.

Five Climates Shiraz (€11.19 in South Africa promo) – Cassis-laden, olive-infused wash, with hints of raspberry jam. Super juice. Try with stir-fried beef in hoisin sauce.

Cappuccino Pinotage (€11.19 in South Africa promo) – Voluptuous, satiny red with seductive notes of blackberry and coffee. Great with pulled pork, smoked duck or even Cajun-spiced ‘blackened’ fish.
