OUR KANU SHIRAZ 2006 achieved a super result in the current (September) edition of Food & Wine magazine. In the top foodie mag’s ‘Out of Africa’ tasting of 20 South African reds, Kanu earned 4/5 stars and abundant praise from all three panel tasters, as well as getting a special mention as ‘weekday best’ wine.
The magazine’s wine editor Raymond Blake noted Kanu’s ‘rich and substantial palate’, while comparing it to a beefy Springbok forward (!). Sunday Business Post wine writer Tomás Clancy described it as having a ‘gorgeous toasty wash with a fine evolving finish.’ Jamie Belton, meanwhile, director of the Town Bar & Grill (where the tasting was held), commended the Shiraz on its ‘fabulous nose’, and remarked that ‘the quality hits you straight away.’
The F&W crew are late to the party though and unfortunately we are practically sold out of Kanu Shiraz at the moment (a handful of bottles remains – phone us for details).
But there are other stars in the Kanu range: Rifle Range Red (€9.59 on promo) wows all who taste it with its cassis-and-chocolate-flavoured gorgeousness; Merlot 2012 (€11.19 on promo) is punchy and fun, with exotic notes of Asian spice and morello cherries; and, for fans of opulent, big whites, look no further than Limited Release Viognier 2010 (€15.99 on promo) – a stunning offering that would cost double if from Viognier’s Rhône homeland.
Great wines, and all on promo this quarter!
