LA CLAPE, meaning “pile of stones” in the old Occitan tongue, is an illustrious subregion of the Languedoc appellation. A World Heritage site that was until the Gallo-Roman period an island, it is perched on the sea-facing slopes of La Clape mountain, walking distance from the sparkling Mediterranean. As a ‘named terroir’, or ‘cru’, of the Languedoc, La Clape is likely to be awarded its own appellation in the not-too-distant future.
