Guiraud is famous for its sweet Sauternes, but its dry white 'G' is stunning too - an indulgent, sumptuous Bordeaux.
Grape Varieties: Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon
Type: White
Country: France
Alcohol: 14%
Style: Dry, minerally
Size: 750ml
Drink By: 2015
An open, refined nose of white peach and nettle leads on to a full-bodied, dry, rich palate with plenty of bright citrus and herb notes overlaid with light toast from the oak. Attractive weight and plumpness, with a pillowy texture and huge length.
Enjoy alongside scallops in a creamy sauce, lobster, monkfish or roast goose.
Ch. Guiraud, a Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classé, specialises in sweet Sauternes but gives over a portion of its organic vineyards to the production of its dry white, G. Eighty percent of the blend is fermented in one-year-old barrels that have previously been used for Sauternes. Six months' barrel ageing and lees stirring imparts a lovely, creamy texture. Made from very ripe grapes that have not been affected by Botrytis Cinera (“noble rot”).
