Created and vinified with passion by Jean Francois Carrille, this wine expresses all the finesse and elegance of this exceptional terroir. A complex nose of spiced plums, leather and woody cigar box aromas. The palate has a full-texture and long, enduring savoury flavours.

Serves as a good match to mushrooms, game birds and roasted lamb.

Situated in the heart of St Emilion, one of the famous Bordeaux right bank communes, the name of this small 8ha vineyard comes from the period of the Saracen invasions around 742 AD, where an observation camp of the Moor armies became known as the “Ville des Maures”, the “Town of the Moors”.

Tasting notes for Château Cardinal Villemaurine Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2008

Clear, light red with an orangey tinge around the rim.

Bacon fat, red fruit such as redcurrant and red berries.

Bacon again coming through on the palate, black tea and red fruit, beautifully softened tannins, good concentration and acidity.

Excellent vintage ('08) drinking well now and in the next year or so.

Mike, Feb 12 (2008 vintage)
