"Has excellent colour, and manages to carry its alcohol without complaint, a heroic effort. Black fruits have a wrapping of dark chocolate proclaiming the region, oak and tannins providing structure, balance and longevity. To 2043. 95 points." - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion.
Named after a set of medieval wooden leg stocks, which stand in the town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, England, “The Stocks” Shiraz is Woodstock’s flagship wine. This single vineyard Shiraz is made from 31 rows of low-yielding vines, planted circa 1900 on a sandy north slope of Woodstock Estate. The single vineyard character is evident each year as a distinctive terroir which may vary slightly in expression annually, but grows in character with bottle age.
Only the best barrels are chosen for this flagship red wine from Woodstock, with heavenly results. Deep, dark indigo in colour with mouth watering complex aromas of coffee, coconut, vanilla and fruit mince. The palate has rich layers of chocolate and mint with spice and warm fruit sweetness, enhanced with soft oak.
“The Stocks” Shiraz usually benefits from breathing before serving, both as a young wine and after cellaring.

James Halliday

"Heroic effort."

Jancis Robinson OBE MW

"So concentrated and dark and deep that it almost growls at you...The alcohol is incredibly high (drinker be warned!) but it is perfectly matched by the depth, clarity of acidity, and the structure of the wine."
