Stunning single vineyard Cabernet from esteemed McLaren Vale estate Woodstock and winemaker Ben Glaetzer.
A single vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 1988 by Scott Collett, on the same sandy ridge as ‘The Stocks’ Shiraz vineyard and alongside Collett Lane.
Carefully selected French and American oak barrels are used for oak ageing to guarantee structure and balance, with the only the best barrels selected each year for this flagship Cabernet. After secondary fermentaton in oak, the wine is returned to barrel and matured for 18 months.
This wine has a synergy between structure, tannins and fruit. The rich middle palate has generous dark fruit flavours with savoury richness of dark chocolate and cardamom. The lingering tannins are medium dry, balancing the lush fruit on the palate. A long refined finish makes this wine ideal with a
hearty meal or one to cellar for the next 5 to 10 years to further integrate the tannins and flavours.
Woodstock is located in South Australia's McLaren Vale, arguably the country's top wine region for big, booming reds. Modern founder Doug Collett caught the wine bug while flying Spitfires over Europe for the Royal Australian Air Force during World War 2, admiring the vineyards below as he went and savouring the local wines while on leave - as you do! Son Scott Collett is the current patriarch with one of Australia's winemaking superstars Ben Glaetzer (Robert Parker's a BIG fan!) overseeing production and blending.
