Runaway Shiraz 2014

Limestone Coast, Australia

Very easy-to-appreciate un-oaked red where the emphasis is all on the vibrant primary fruit flavours. Expect masses of sweet plum and blackberry intermingled with juniper, chocolate and pepper notes, all wrapped up in a velvety tannic frame. Tasty!

Great on its own or with steak, strong cheese or a good cigar.

In 1993 Geoff Hardy brought together a group of wine-loving friends (including Scott Collett of Woodstock) to buy 175 hectares of vines in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Since then Wirrega Vineyards (‘Wirrega’ is the name of a local Aboriginal tribe) has provided top-quality fruit for some of Australia’s most iconic wine brands. With the launch of the Wirrega wine label the time has now come for Wirrega to show what it can do!

The Limestone Coast GI (Geographical Indication) is located in the SE corner of South Australia (SA), bordering Victoria in the east. It is one of the country's most important wine zones, responsible for a third of SA's quality wines. As the name suggests, limestone forms the basis of the soil/terroir here - the area used to be a vast inland sea a million years ago. My, how the time flies!
