Trambusti Rosso di Montalcino 2014

Tuscany, Italy

Buy Now:

Suave and impressive Tuscan red that's ultra-dense, smooth and cool, with fine notes of black cherry, charcoal and Assam tea, framed by fine, unobtrusive tannins. Impeccable balance, length and depth. Recommended!

Pair with roast lamb rump with tomatoes, red onion jam and basil oil.

The Tuscan wine region for Rosso di Montalcino occupies the same area as that for its more celebrated (and expensive) brother Brunello di Montalcino. The AOP (official wine region) was created in 1984 to allow producers to make use of the lighter fruit/juice from their younger vines and to make some money while waiting for their Brunellos to mature and be ready for sale. The grape is the same in both cases: Sangiovese Grosso.

Trambusti, based near Florence, was founded in 1934 by Orlando Trambusti and is today run by his son Giovanni and grandchildren Giacomo, Veronica and Francesco. The estate's 52 hectares, include peaceful olive groves, are 350 meters above sea level, an altitude that is considered perfect for viticulture in Tuscany.
