Confident with a positive nose of rocket leaf, red pepper, lemon sorbet, gooseberry and elderflower. Dry but luscious, there's a fine symmetry between the heady richness and zesty freshness, with fleshy, exotic mango on the palate countered by energetic acidity.

Beautiful with Tandoori chicken or tomato and basil salad.

When George Elworthy decided to dust off his wine-making hat to create a new range of wines, a friendly rivalry arose. His wife, Jules Taylor, also happens to be a well-known Marlborough winemaker, and so 'The Better Half' seemed like the perfect tongue-in-cheek moniker to attach to his new project.

Flat, wide, 25,000-hectare Marlborough is New Zealand's most important region, churning out 75% of Kiwi wine annually. Large-scale winegrowing didn't start here until the 1970s, when Montana/Brancott arrived and starting turning sheep pasture into vineyards. Sauvignon Blanc dominates production but Marlborough also grows good Chardonnay, Pinot Noir (much of these two end up in sparkling), Pinot Gris and Riesling. The region is almost fully planted at this stage.
