Tenute Salvaterra Valpolicella Classico 2015

Veneto, Italy

Magnificently perfumed bouquet of exotic dark flowers and sweet kirsch - beautiful! The satiny, fine palate slips down so easily, with easygoing tannins and fresh berry fruit notes of Morello cherry and blackberry, seasoned with bashed peppercorn and wood smoke. Superb complexity, balance and length - fabulous!

Try lightly chilled with beef teriyaki or beef carpaccio.

This wine is a typical blend of 65% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 15% Corvinone. No "dried grapes" - as in Ripasso or Amarone - are used, and maturation is solely in stainless steel,  giving a very bright, fresh, clean red wine.

Valpolicella Classico is a fresh, cherry-scented red wine from the original heartland of Valpolicella (a much-respected appellation in the Veneto, north-eastern Italy), before the region's massive 1968 expansion. Just over one-third of Valpolicella qualifies as "Classico." You can taste the difference in quality between regular Valpolicella and Classico; and this disparity relates to grape-growing factors like terroir, yield, soil drainage and sun exposure.
