Stellenrust Pinotage 2015

Stellenbosch, South Africa

Buy Now:

Expressive and aromatic, with soft aromas of spiced black fruit, coffee and tomato leaf. The full-bodied, smooth palate is generously endowed with ripe berry flavours, raspberry and subtle oak nuances. Suave and long.

Good to drink on its own and lovely too with pepperoni pizza, smoked duck or oxtail stew.

Made from 100% Pinotage grown in the Bottelary and Helderberg subregions of Stellenbosch. Grapes were  cold macerated for 24 hours prior to fermentation with cultured French yeast. After 4 days the wine was pressed and allowed to continue its fermentation in stainless steel, before being matured in toasted French oak for one year. Pinotage is a controversial grape that is almost exclusive to South Africa. It was created in 1925 when Cinsault and Pinot Noir were crossed.
Stellenrust bottled its first wines in 1928 and today the winery is run by brothers Tertius (winemaker) and Kobus (viticulturist), and is one of the largest family-run Fairtrade Estates in Stellenbosch, with 500 hectares under vine.
