Solonio Il Grottone 2009

Lazio, Italy

Buy Now:

Flashing deep-ruby colour with fragrant aromas of blackberry and violet, with a medium-weight, textured wash of glossy black olive, mulberry and aniseed. Unique, tasty flavours, with a luxurious mouthfeel, impressive length and savoury, minerally finish.
Supple enough to drink on its own but goes well with casseroles and roasted vegetables too.
'Il Grottone' is a fifty-fifty blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The newly-fermented wine is aged for one year in small French oak barriques before bottling and sale. Solonio’s vineyards are located in Lanuvio about 30 km south of Rome. Spread along the Colli Albani hills, they form an integral part of the ‘Castelli Romani’ Regional Park, a protected natural area in Lazio. The local soils are volcanic, and rich in minerals and trace elements.
