Santos da Casa Unoaked Reserva

Alentejo, Portugal

This is the star of the show of this cool new Portuguese set-up, an unoaked Reserva, allowed under Alentejo regulations when the wine is of exceptional quality.
A strange mix of Portuguese native grape Touriga Nacional and four international varietals, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, it comes together in a fresh, crisp summer fruit medley of raspberry, cherry and blackberry, with a creamy texture and flecks of vanilla and white pepper. It's just gorgeous.
Dunk in the fridge for half an hour for extra freshness.

Santos & Seixo is a modern project based in Alentejo, southern Portugal, but with vineyard interests in Alentejo, the Douro, and other key winemaking regions. The goal of founders Alzira dos Santos and Pedro Seixo is simple: to showcase the best of what Portugal has to offer, whether by region or grape, with minimal intervention so the wine represents the terroir and not the winemaker. The eye-catching pop-art labels refer to the "saints" (santos) amongst us - we'll happily remain the sinners, stealing these wines away from their homeland.
