Old vine fine wine from this 200 year-old family estate in the Douro.
Port-grapes Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca plus Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) are treated to a mix of new and old French oak barriques for a minimum of twelve months, with a further year in bottle prior to release. This is a stunning, full-on oaked Reserva, glass-coatingly thick with wonderful aromatics evoking summer berries, cigar box, cedar and menthol. The palate is rich and velvety, beautifully tempered with time, with a flavour chart that extends from ripe fruit through savoury meats, earthy woody notes and winter spices.
Decant for 3-4 hours if possible and polish your biggest glasses for the occasion!
The Leite family settled in Poiares Seara, in Portugal's now renowned Douro wine and Port region, in the late 18th century, immediately planting vineyards, olive groves and almond trees, some of which survive to this day. Quinta Seara d'Ordens was derived from the military commander son, who based himself at the estate (quinta) and gave orders (ordens) to the soldiers under his command.
Over two hundred years later the estate remains in the Leite family, with João Leite Moreira the latest custodian overseeing production of high quality DOC Douro wines and continuing a long tradition of producing outstanding Ports.
