Huge, inviting nose of sweet raspberry, cedar and mocha. The lush palate is generous and spicy, with delicious characters of ripe blackberries and hints of caramel. Intense and long, with a satisfying, moreish finish.

Has enough fruit to enjoy on its own but pairs brilliantly with seared meats too.

The Shiraz here was picked in the cool of nighttime to retain primary fruit flavours. After pressing, a portion of the wine completed its fermentation in oak barrels and, once all the sugars were fermented, the different vats were blended and the resulting young wine matured for 18 months in a combination of American and French oak of varying age.

McLaren Vale, a premium region 35km south of Adelaide, enjoys a perfect Mediterranean climate, with sea breezes helping to moderate temperatures during the long summer. Shiraz is the GI's top grape, followed by Grenache, Mourvedre and a plethora of other varieties. Some of McLaren's vines are notably ancient (100+ years old) and produce low yields of super-concentrated juice.

Reviews:

Irish Independent

Liam Campbell

"Warmed earth and ripe black fruity aromas. Intense juicy and fleshy black fruits with an earthy terroir palate and a warming finish. Needs a rich and dark gamey dish - venison in a red wine sauce."

Food & Wine magazine

"Thoroughly seductive wine... easily justifies its price and makes the strongest argument possible for trading up to get real quality and satisfaction."

*Recommended by F&W as 'Best Weekday Buy'

James Halliday

"A bright and fragrant bouquet, showing blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and fruitcake spice; medium to full bodied, and certainly no shrinking violet, the freshness of fruit and acidity is commendable, as is the value."
