Treasures Coonawara Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Coonawarra, Australia

Gorgeous crimson colour with a racy, dark-fruited nose of charred wood and chocolate. The palate displays elegant weight and fine tannins, with classy flavours of cassis, pipe tobacco and cinnamon. A complex red that benefits from decanting.
Enjoy with roast beef sirloin and root vegetables or a farmhouse cheese plate.
The Cabernet grapes that go into this wine were picked before dawn so as to keep the grapes as cool as possible and so retain delicate fruit aromas that then transfer to the wine. After crushing and pressing, the juice was fermented in oak barrel before being matured in various types of barrel for 16 months prior to bottling.
Coonawarra, a somewhat remote region, is in the extreme south-east of SA, close to Victoria. It is famous for its full-bodied Cabernet and Bordeaux blends and also for its rust-coloured terra rossa soil, a key aspect of the GI's terroir. This eye-catching soil covers an area just 12km long and 2km wide. As well as Cabernet and Merlot, other varieties such as Shiraz, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Chardonnay are grown. The climate is Mediterranean.
