Inviting, warm aromas of raspberry, sandalwood and earth waft generously from the glass. The full-bodied, rich palate shows ripe tannins, fresh acidity and lovely flavours of blackberry, coffee and brown sugar. Very complex, indulgent style.
Drink with roast leg of lamb, Manchego cheese or pepperoni cheese ravioli.
Navarra is a DO just north of Rioja (its capital is Pamplona, of bull running fame). Traditionally a rosado (pink) region, today it focuses more on fruity, dense, oaky reds made from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Garnacha (Grenache). Pago de Cirsus makes single-estate wines from very low-yielding vines. This 'Oak Aged' blend is aged for nine months in mostly-French barrels.
