Half Pinot Noir & half Gamay - a slight rarity, but astonishingly good drinking.

Drink By: 2011

If you're a fan of Beaujolais, this Macon Superieur will go down very well, whilst remaining distinctly Maconnais. Light, elegant and bursting with red berry fruits.

Vineyards on the rolling limestone hills of Macon are surrounding by livestock and arable farming. In comparison to Cote d'Or, the Maconnais receives more sunlight, less rain and little risk of frost. It is to the immediate north of Beaujolais and is the most southerly region in Burgundy. Some of the world's best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is grown here.

Tasting notes for Moillard Macon Superieur 2008

On the nose, red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, hints of spice (cinnamon, vanilla)

Dry in the mouth, noticeable tannins but not harsh. Rounded, subtle fruit along with hints of leather, game and spice. Lovely balance, touch of acidity alongside delicate flavours.

A fairly uncommon blend that works very well.

Mike, May 10 (2008 vintage)
