Miss Vicky Fleurie 2013

Beaujolais, France

Buy Now:

Floral, elegant and aromatic, with a heady perfume of freshly-picked irises and peonies, intermingled with crushed black cherry. The silky wash shows hints of roses and light spice, with refreshing acidity and round tannins. Harmonious and smooth.

Gorgeous with seared duck breast, beef stroganoff or Toulouse sausages.

Paris-born 'Miss Vicky' (Anne-Victoire Monrozier) is a wine writer and digital media specialist who went from selling and acting as ambassador-saleswoman for her dad's Fleurie to creating a wine brand that included not just the family wine, but the wines of other, local, artisan winemakers, whose bottles were selected for inclusion by way of a panel of wine bloggers, journalists, consumers and buyers.

Fleurie is one of the 10 Beaujolais 'crus', villages whose 'terroir' is considered to give wine that is much better than that made in the rest of the region. Cru Beaujolais - especially after some age - is arguably more like red Burgundy than Beaujolais ordinaire. Like all Beaujolais, Fleurie is made exclusively from the Gamay grape. It is the most 'feminine' (!) of the 10 crus.

"Immediately attractive, heightened nose, with quite a rich, savoury palate that shows plenty of mineral-toned cherry fruit ... makes rewarding drinking."
