Classy number with an intoxicating perfume and expansive flavours of pomegranate, red liquorice, cherry pit and stony minerals. Satiny, fine and perfectly balanced.

Try with pastrami sandwich, black pudding or Cork specialty spiced beef.

Made from 100% unoaked Mencía (men-THEE-ah), this beautiful Spanish red undergoes one week of micro-oxygenation, a winemaking technique that mimics the effects of long barrel ageing.

In 2010 Pedro Merayo converted an old apple store into a shiny new winery. (How do you like THEM apples?) In the short time since, the winning combination of Pedro's meticulous viticulture and the winemaking expertise of young, dynamic Fermin Uria has already produced spectacular results. A key factor to Merayo's success is the age of their ancient bushvines, most of which are 60-80 years old - older plants give less fruit than younger ones, but fruit of much higher quality!

Bierzo is a wine region in NW Spain where the star grape is Mencía, grown in cool temperatures (by Spanish standards) on rugged slate-granite slopes. Bierzo was given official status in 1989 and in recent times has experienced a surge in popularity as a result of famous Priorat winemaker Alvaro Palacios establishing vineyards there.
