Marqués de Somera Gran Reserva 2009

Cariñena, Spain

Buy Now:

Handsome cherry colour with a warm bouquet of plum, truffle and wood smoke. The velvety palate is full and rich, but with lovely balance, and laid-back notes of berries, leather and coffee. Delicious!
Great for with the Sunday roast or paprika pork and red peppers.
This mature Spanish red is made from a blend of Garnacha (Grenache), Tempranillo and Syrah. The grapes grow at 650m on traditional, dry-farmed bush vines (en vaso). Spanish 'Gran Reserva' wines are aged longer than those labelled 'Roble', 'Crianza' or 'Reserva'; and bodegas reserve their best juice for this premium, sought-after and rare (most wineries don't offer a Gran Reserva) style. Gran Reservas are typically velvety, smooth and mellow.
Cariñena is a DO/appellation (wine region) in Aragon, northern Spain. Most of its vineyards are located at fairly high altitude - 400–800m - and are scattered along the plains of the River Ebro. The climate is continental, with big temperature swings that help the grapes preserve freshness and aroma, and a brisk northerly wind – the Cierzo – that helps keep the vines perky, productive and healthy.
