Les Romances Chinon Cabernet Franc 2014

Loire, France

Buy Now:

Cheerful personality with lifted aromas of bright red fruits - cherry, raspberry - and a light-to-medium-bodied wash marked by soft tannins, tangy freshness and appetising notes of spiced blackberry, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. Suave style.

Lovely with rare rack of lamb or spiced mackerel on toast with beetroot salsa.

Chinon is a central Loire appellation that trades in varietal Cabernet Franc (although appellation laws do allow up to a tenth of Cab Sauv). It's one of just a small few Loire regions (the others being Saumur/Bourgueil/Saumur-Champigny) where red wines rule. The local soil is tuffeau, a fragile, porous, yellow, sedimentary rock (a combination of sand and marine fossils) that perfectly manages water supply to the vines.
