Dashing crimson, with a massive nose of dark berries, crushed violets, raspberry coulis and fig. The potent, unctuous wash is heavy and mouthcoating, with luxurious tannins and beautiful chocolate cookie sweetness on the finish.
Aerate and sup on its own or have with sticky sausage burgers with blue cheese.
Made from 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, a portion of the blend here is aged for one year in newish oak. Vacqueyras is an appellation for red, white and rosé wines in France's southern Rhône region. Its wine laws are similar to those of neighbouring Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the two wine styles share many similarities. The area enjoys a pure Mediterranean climate, and the reliably-hot summers ensure maximum ripeness for the grapes each season.
In 1964, the Lavau family founded a company that produced wine from bought-in grapes and then sold it on in the bulk wine market. In 2000, Frederic and brother Benoit Lavau took control and the boys totally changed the direction of the business, deciding to start bottling their wine under the present Lavau label.

Joanne Cronin

"This wine is vibrant and beautifully dark in the glass with all the usual Rhone notes of dark berries, a touch of violet and a slight minty freshness to round it all out."
