Full bodied but still light on its feet, with plenty of ripe black and red berry action, spiced up with flickers of pepper and saffron. Deliciously sweet fruit all the way through before the lingering, smoky close. Terrific effort!

Lovely with rosemary-studded roast leg of lamb or slow-cooked pot roasts.

GSM is a much-copied, classic southern Rhône 'recipe' that includes Grenache, Shiraz (Syrah) and Mourvedre in varying proportions; here it is 45% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, which would be fairly typical. It's really a warm-climate style, that appears frequently in South Australia as well as in its southern French home.

In 1964, the Lavau family founded a company that produced wine from bought-in grapes and then sold it on in the bulk wine market. In 2000, Frederic and brother Benoit Lavau took control and the boys totally changed the direction of the business, deciding to start bottling their wine under the present Lavau label.
