Lavau Côtes du Rhône 2016

Rhône, France

Buy Now:

Exceptionally round, easy drinking style with bright berry fruit, mild acidity and the softest, most mannerly, of tannins. Very aromatic and fruity, with come-hither notes of cherry, strawberry and raspberry, with flickers of pink peppercorn and cola. Your new best friend!

Beautiful on its own or with duck pancakes and hoisin sauce.

In 1964, the Lavau family founded a company that produced wine from bought-in grapes and then sold it on in the bulk wine market. In 2000, Frederic and brother Benoit Lavau took control and the boys totally changed the direction of the business, deciding to start bottling their wine under the Lavau label. In a complementary move, they partnered the business with Château Maucoil, a 40-hectare farm in nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Côtes du Rhône is a sprawling, industrious wine appellation in eastern France. Although some white and pink is made under the banner, the classic expression is a fruity, mid-weight red blend based on Grenache (especially), Syrah and Mourvedre. The vast majority of Côtes du Rhône originates in the south of the region.
