Deep dark red with plenty of fruit to the fore, primarily blackberry. A great value medium bodied, juicy wine with balanced tannins, it is a good match for spicy Mexican food, oven cooked with meat, or with traditional Spanish cuisine.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and pressed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then filtered and bottled.
Cariñena DO, one of the oldest demarcated appellations in Europe (estd. 1932), is in Aragón, northern Spain. Its vineyards are mostly at altitudes of 400-800m and the climate is extremely continental. Cariñena (Carignan) the grape used to be dominant here before being usurped by Garnacha. The craggy, pebble-strewn terrain here is such that locals call their wines 'el vino de las piedras' or 'wine of the rocks'.
