Astonishing red with a shimmering ruby colour and sweet-fruited aromas of black cherry preserve and vanilla pod. The luscious palate is indulgence itself, with showy, pleasure-giving flavours of blackberry, liquorice and melted dark chocolate. Stunning!
Beautiful on its own or with Mongolian beef or sticky barbecue spare ribs.
La Cuvée Mythique - the first Languedoc wine to achieve 90 Parker points - is a regional blend of classic southern grapes Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and old-vine Carignan from low-yielding (40hl/ha) vines grown on copper-tinted soils. (The wine's terra cotta label is a nod to this terroir.)  The grapes are hand harvested and the cuvée matured in French oak barrique.
Narbonne-based Val d’Orbieu was founded 40 years ago and has grown since to become one of France’s largest and savviest wine groups. The company owns 17,000 hectares of vineyards, equivalent to half New Zealand's wine growing area. So seriously does it take its craft that head winemaker Olivier Dauga actually wears a blindfold - to heighten his senses, he says - while tasting and selecting for final blends.

"This is an old favourite of mine from the 1990s but only reappeared fairly recently. A blend including Syrah and Grenache — ripe and rich and packed with bramble fruit with great flavour."
