Jules Taylor Pinot Noir 2016

Marlborough, New Zealand

Buy Now:

Incredibly generous nose that hums with swish scents of violets and plum, mingled with dark, dried fruits and cheerful, sweet-spice notes from the wood. The wild ferment and extended maturation have added layers of complexity to the gorgeous raspberry and plum characters found on the palate. A joy!

Enjoy on its own or pair with forest truffle chicken or honey-glazed ham.

The grapes for this premium Pinot were grown in Marlborough’s Awatere, Brancott and Omaka Valleys. At the winery the fruit was de-stemmed into small open top fermenters and cold soaked for 5-10 days, before being fermented using native yeasts. Regular hand plunging ensured good colour and tannin extraction. The wine was pressed at dryness before being transferred to a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel for maturation.

Zoology graduate Jules Taylor (who was born the year the first vines were planted in Marlborough) did a postgraduate course in winemaking/viticulture at Lincoln before working a number of vintages in Piedmont, Sicily, Australia and Cloudy Bay. She then took a permanent job at Marlborough Valley Cellars, where she was mentored by Kiwi wine industry veterans Kim Crawford, Simon Waghorn and Matt Thompson. They encouraged her to launch her own label and, in 2001, she did, making her first 200 cases of Jules Taylor wines. The rest is history!

Wine Spectator

*Top 100 Wines in the World*

"Fragrant and ebullient, with caramel and vanilla bean accents to the core of ripe black cherry and plum flavors, balanced by velvety tannins and dark chocolate nuances. Expressive and generous on the long finish."

"Pretty aromas of raspberries and violets that are bright and charming."

Dish magazine

"The judges were impressed with the inky magenta colour, highly floral complexity, nice acidity and surrounding fleshy layers edged with dried herb notes. This is an excellent example from one of Marlborough’s most exciting winemakers."

Wine Spectator

"Ample spice and sarsaparilla flavors give the core of ripe, fleshy cherry and
wild berry flavours...Ripe, plush and fleshy on the finish."
