Gregorina Sangiovese Superiore 2010

Gregorina Sangiovese Superiore 2010

Emilia-Romagna

€14.49

A juicy, perfumed red that offers a gentler, more approachable Sangiovese experience than many of its Tuscan brothers.

Grape Varieties: Sangiovese

Type: Red

Country: Italy

Alcohol: 13.5%

Style: Medium-bodied, fruity

Size: 750ml

Drink By: 2014

Medium-bodied and fragrant with round, appetising tannins, gentle acidity and deliciously grown-up flavours of tangy cherry, herbs (sage, thyme), tobacco and rhubarb. Earthy and rustic, with a lovely savoury quality that makes it a perfect food wine.

Drink with country fare, good-quality Italian sausage, Hunter's Stew or home-made pizza.

Despite its not being DOCG-level, Sangiovese di Romagna is generally considered to be Emilia-Romagna's top wine. The first wine of the region to achieve DOC status back in 1967, it comes in four styles: Novella (think Beaujolais), standard, Superiore, and Superiore Riserva. For Superiore (i.e. this wine), the grapes must be grown in the better hills and must attain higher natural ripeness. The DOC straddles a vast area and the wines must include at least 85% Sangiovese.
