Australia Wine Gourmet Traveller - 90 points & 4 stars
The third Gewürtztraminer release for Greenhough, this wine has heady aromas of oriental spices, fresh florals and citrus zest. The palate has an oily mouthfeel with citrus, rosewater and tropical pineapple fruits with savoury, toasted nut and spice on the long finish.
Made from two vineyards in Moutere and Hope. All grapes were hand harvested with a portion whole-bunch-pressed. Twenty percent of the wine was fermented in new and seasoned French oak barriques and allowed to rest on lees for four months. The barrel-aged portion contributes complexity and weight without harming the wines texture.
Greenhough (green-hoff) is a family owned vineyard and winery established in 1991. Located at Hope, near Nelson at the top of the South Island, the vines are planted in free-draining, clay rich soils beneath the foothills of the Richmond Ranges.
