La Reine de l'Arenite Fleurie 2011

Floral, elegant and aromatic, with a heady perfume of freshly-picked irises and peonies, intermingled with crushed black cherry. The silky wash shows hints of roses and light spice, with refreshing acidity and round tannins. Harmonious and smooth.

Drink with cured meats, terrine, juicy lamb cutlets, duck breast or pork belly.

'Arenite' is the terroir of pink, crumbly sandstone of the La Madone vineyards, regarded as Fleurie's finest. The old-vine Gamay vines used for this delicious offering are goblet trained on south-east facing slopes, and the hand-picked grapes are whole-berry fermented for 10 days using traditional carbonic maceration and indigenous yeasts. The pressed wine rests in tank then for 10 months before bottling.
