Flaco Madrid Tempranillo 2015

Madrid, Spain

Satiny and fun, with juicy cherry and raspberry characters given interest by intriguing flashes of cola, liquorice and olive. Flirty and focused, with medium body, gentle tannins and a sappy, floral finish. So well made!

Beautiful to drink on its own or to bring on a picnic or beach trip.

Flaco ('skinny' in Spanish) is made wholly from Spain’s signature variety Tempranillo. The grapes are organic (un-certified - common in wine growing) and dry-farmed (i.e. no irrigation). As you might expect of unirrigated vines in a semi-desert, yields are low (about 31 hl/ha), resulting in lovely concentrated flavours. Cool fermented, unoaked, and intended for early - immediate, even - drinking.

Vinos de Madrid is the Denominación de Origen title that encompasses the vineyards surrounding (unsurprisingly) Madrid. Like many similar regions, it has this century cast off its reputation as an uninteresting bulk-wine producer, and is today recognised and lauded as a specialist in ripe, good-value styles, primarly red.
