Purposeful, abundant red with a sensuous feel, sweet tannins and delicious raspberry, prune, blueberry and lavender characters. A real charmer, with winning poise and panache!
This would work brilliantly with a beef, kidney and mushroom pie.
Fitou is a red-wine region in the heart of the Languedoc. The typical wines are similar to those of neighbouring Corbières - midweight, often rustic and wildly herby. The dominant varieties in are Carignan and Grenache, which together must comprise a minimum of 60% of the blend. The Fitou appellation is actually split into two distinct zones, both finger-like enclaves stretching northwards into the larger Corbières.
Certified organic wines like this Fitou are rare within the wine sector (only one-in-twenty bottles is organic) as, even where producers opt to farm organically for quality reasons, they often don't bother with the expense and hassle of certification. They also may want to keep their options open in the event of a terrible summer, where non-organic treatments might be required to save the crop - and that year's income.
